Shaheed El Hafed, May 9, 2025 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, extended his congratulations to Pope Leo XIV on his election as Supreme Pontiff and Pope of the Catholic Church.
In his congratulatory message, President Ghali said, "it gives me great pleasure, in my own name and on behalf of the people and government of the Sahrawi Republic, to extend to Your Holiness my warmest congratulations and sincerest blessings on the occasion of your election as Supreme Pontiff and Pope of the Catholic Church in the Conclave. This esteemed position reflects the profound trust placed in you by your brother cardinals."
President Ghali further emphasized, "in the Sahrawi Republic, we reaffirm our unwavering readiness to strengthen communication, coordination, and fraternal relations with the Vatican. We deeply appreciate the noble positions and messages of solidarity and humanitarian support consistently upheld by the Holy See regarding the Sahrawi cause - positions that champion human rights, justice, and peace. A shining example of this is the special papal attention given to Sahrawi refugee children who spend their summer holidays annually in Italy."
