Nouakchott, Mauritania, September 21, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic is participating in the proceedings of the North Africa Regional Workshop on Social and Behaviour Change Communication, organized by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) for the countries of the North African region.
The workshop, hosted by the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, and continuing until September 24, aims to lay the foundations for governance and identify thematic priorities, while working to institutionalize the regional community of practice on Health Promotion, Communication and Engagement (HPCE) and Social and Behaviour Change (SBC). It also provides an overview of the Africa CDC agenda in the field of social and behaviour change communication.
The Sahrawi Republic is participating with a detailed presentation on the areas of work of the Information and Awareness Department at the Ministry of Public Health and its role in promoting community health awareness. The presentation also addresses the main challenges related to social and behaviour change communication and ways of using health communication to strengthen prevention and improve health practices within the community.
The Sahrawi Republic is represented at the regional workshop by Mr. Hayaye Ahmed Baba Hayaye, Director of Information and Awareness at the Ministry of Public Health.
