
Cairo (Egypt), June 23 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic is participating in the first ministerial meeting (Health Ministers) of the Regional Steering Committee (ReSCO) and the second meeting of the Regional Technical Advisory Committee (ReTAC), organized under the supervision of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) in Cairo.
The first day of the meeting was attended by senior officials from health ministries, representatives of North African countries in the Regional Technical Advisory Committee, members of the Africa CDC North Africa Regional Office, delegates from Africa CDC, as well as representatives of partner organizations and bodies in various health fields.
Discussions focused on issues related to the Technical Advisory Committee, a review of its work over the past year, and the activities of the North Africa Regional Office of the Africa CDC.
Following the Regional Technical Advisory Committee meeting, health ministers from North Africa convened on the second day, including representatives from the Sahrawi Republic, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Mauritania, a delegate from the Algerian Minister of Health, and a representative of the Moroccan Minister of Health.
Regarding the ministerial committee, it was agreed that Tunisia would chair the ReSCO Technical Committee, with Algeria as vice-chair, with the position rotating every two years among all seven member states of the North African region.
The Sahrawi Republic was represented at the meeting by the Minister of Public Health, Salek Baba Hassana, whose speech drew significant attention. He emphasized the critical importance of cooperation and coordination among regional countries and highlighted the essential role of the Africa CDC in disease prevention and control.
He reiterated the Sahrawi Republic's readiness to share all relevant information and successful initiatives while intensifying efforts to strengthen and enhance healthcare services to ensure quality.
Accompanying the Minister of Public Health were Sidi Omar, Central Director of Prevention; Bashir Saleh, Central Director of Training and Studies; and Aiza Hussein Azreibea, Central Director of Health Statistics.
