Tenerife (Canary Islands), July 19, 2026 (SPS) – The Canary Association of Friendship with the Sahrawi People, in coordination with the Polisario Front Representation in the Canary Islands and associations of the Sahrawi community, organized a solidarity march on Saturday on the island of Tenerife, expressing broad support for the Sahrawi people's struggle for freedom and independence.

The march passed through the streets of the city of La Laguna, with participants raising Sahrawi flags and banners calling for the freedom of the Sahrawi people, respect for human rights, and an end to the illegal exploitation of the natural resources of Western Sahara.

Participants also sent messages of solidarity to the Sahrawi population in the occupied territories and Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan occupation prisons, foremost among them Sahrawi civilian prisoner Naâma Asfari, who is on an open-ended hunger strike, alongside his fellow Gdeim Izik group prisoners. They called for their immediate release and respect for their fundamental rights.

The event witnessed the chanting of slogans denouncing the illegitimate position of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez regarding Western Sahara, while calls were made on the Spanish government, the European Union, and the international community to accelerate the implementation of United Nations resolutions on organizing a free and fair referendum that would enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and independence.
