Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs received by South African President

Pretoria (South Africa), July 10, 2026 (SPS) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs of the Sahrawi Republic, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, was received today, Friday, in Pretoria by the President of South Africa, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, in his capacity as Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali.

During the high-level meeting, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat delivered to President Ramaphosa a written message from President Brahim Ghali concerning ways to strengthen and deepen the fraternal bilateral relations between the Sahrawi Republic and the Republic of South Africa, as well as continued consultation and coordination on African and international issues of common interest.

During the talks, President Ramaphosa reaffirmed his country's longstanding and principled support for the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people to attain freedom and full independence.

He stressed that South Africa's position, rooted in its own history of liberation, remains steadfast in defending the right of all peoples to self-determination in accordance with the founding principles of the African Union and the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.

For his part, the Sahrawi Foreign Minister briefed the South African President on the latest developments regarding the Sahrawi national cause at all levels. He reviewed recent developments in the Sahrawi people's struggle and the efforts of the United Nations aimed at resolving the conflict through the decolonization of Africa's last colony, while addressing the obstacles and maneuvers put forward by the Moroccan occupation regime.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to South Africa, Mr. Abbah Al-Mad Abdullah, along with advisers from South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat is currently undertaking a tour of several African countries as Special Envoy of President Brahim Ghali. During the mission, he has been received by the President of Zimbabwe, the President of Mozambique, the President of Namibia, the Minister of International Relations of the Republic of Angola, the President of Botswana, and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
