Shaheed El Hafed, April 6, 2025 (SPS) – Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, the Polisario Front’s representative to the United Nations and coordinator with MINURSO, stated that the official talks between the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, and the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General focused on the current situation and prospects of the UN-sponsored peace process in Western Sahara.
In a statement to the media following the reception hosted by President Brahim Ghali for Mr. Staffan de Mistura, the Sahrawi diplomat added that the meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm the Sahrawi position, which has been repeatedly emphasized: the Sahrawi people’s unwavering commitment to its inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar noted that President Brahim Ghali expressed his support for the efforts of the United Nations and the African Union to complete the decolonization of Western Sahara, reiterating that the Sahrawi people remain steadfast in its right to legitimate resistance.
He further stated that President Ghali renewed his call on the United Nations to take practical steps to enable MINURSO to fully implement its mandate by enforcing the UN-OAU Settlement Plan, which is based on a self-determination referendum, allowing the Sahrawi people to exercise its inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
