Moscow (Russia), January 14, 2025 (SPS) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the solution should be based on the principle of self-determination and the will of the Sahrawi people.
In a press conference held to review the activities of Russian diplomacy for the year 2024, Lavrov commented on Western Sahara, saying that we should be guided by the decisions of the United Nations Security Council, which stipulate that the solution must be based on the principle of self-determination and the will of the Sahrawi people.
The Russian minister's statements align with United Nations resolutions concerning Western Sahara, which has been listed as a non-self-governing territory by the UN since 1963. This puts additional pressure on Morocco, which continues to resist and procrastinate in implementing UN resolutions aimed at ending the suffering of the Sahrawi people in the last colony in Africa.
