New York (United Nations), 9 September 2023 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, will hold Monday, at the headquarters of the United Nations, discussions with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, as part of the permanent dialogue between the Sahrawi side and the UN chief.
The discussions will focus on a "series of issues of common interest, mainly the state and prospects of the UN-sponsored peace process in Western Sahara, and the ways to revive it and speed up the completion of decolonization in Western Sahara, which has been on the United Nations' agenda since 1963, in line with the relevant UN resolutions and the principles of the international law."
The discussions, scheduled for next week, between the President of the Republic and The Secretary General of the United Nations, in the presence of top UN officials, "come as part of the permanent dialogue between the Sahrawi side and the chief of the United Nations and its agencies," the representative of the Polisario Front to the UN, coordinator of the UN Mission for the Holding of the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Sidi Mohamed Omar, told Sahrawi media .
According to him," The discussions have a special importance as they come a few days only before the opening of the 78th ordinary session of the UN General Assembly, which will tackle, as every year, Western Sahara issue, in the general debate of the fourth committee on decolonization".
