Shaheed El Hafed, 22 September 2026 (SPS) – The National Mechanism for Coordinating Human Rights Action has placed the issue of Sahrawi civilian prisoners at the forefront of its concerns, denouncing the policies of reprisal and the discriminatory and degrading treatment to which they are subjected in Moroccan prisons.
The statement pointed out that denying detainees adequate healthcare and deliberately transferring them to prisons far from their families constitute flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and the Convention against Torture.
The Mechanism called for the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners detained because of their peaceful activities, while ensuring their physical and psychological safety and guaranteeing their full and unhindered access to their fundamental rights.
