Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), September 08, 2025 (SPS) - The Minister of Water and Environment, Mr. Adda Brahim Ahmim, stated in a statement to the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS) following his participation in the second African Climate Summit that the Sahrawi Republic's presence at this important continental event embodies its determination to actively engage in African and international efforts to address climate change, despite the difficult circumstances imposed by the policies of the Moroccan occupation on the Sahrawi people, their land, and natural resources.
The Sahrawi Minister clarified that the environmental challenges facing the Sahrawi state are compounded by the occupation, including the depletion of natural resources, obstruction of sustainable development projects, and deprivation of full access to water resources and renewable energy. He noted that this exacerbates the fragility of the ecosystem and hinders the path to adapting to the effects of climate change.
He added that Sahrawi participation in this summit sends a clear message to the international community about the necessity of enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise full sovereignty over their resources and land, allowing them to formulate and implement national strategies to address climate challenges, similar to other countries on the continent.
The Minister also emphasized that the Sahrawi Republic, despite the difficulties, continues to implement programs for the conservation of water resources and environmental cleanliness, affirming its readiness to enhance cooperation with African countries and relevant international organizations in these and other areas.
