Lisbon, 4 October 2025 (APS) – The General Confederation of Portuguese Workers has reaffirmed its support for the Sahrawi people's struggle, their just cause, and their inalienable right to freedom and self-determination.

The statement came during a meeting between Mohamed Salem Hama Abdullah, head of foreign relations, cooperation, information and Sahrawi communities, and Denis Lourenço, an official in the foreign relations and international solidarity department at Portugal's General Confederation of Workers (CGTP), where they discussed the joint cooperation program and upcoming initiatives.

Lourenço emphasized the confederation's “support for the Sahrawi people's struggle and their just cause, rooted in the principles and objectives of the General Confederation of Workers, which maintains a consistent stance in support of all just causes worldwide.”

The official also highlighted the Portuguese Parliament's position “rejecting any proposal that violates international law and relevant UN resolutions concerning the decolonization of Western Sahara and the Sahrawi people's legitimate right to freedom and independence.”
