Paris, September 28, 2026 (SPS) – Sahrawi diaspora associations and representatives in France have carried out several solidarity initiatives in recent days in support of the nine Sahrawi political prisoners from the Gdeim Izik group, who have been on an open-ended hunger strike in Moroccan prisons since September 23.
In Paris, several Sahrawi associations took part on Saturday in a rally at Place de la République, where they raised public awareness about the prisoners’ situation and demands, including respect for their rights, implementation of recommendations issued by UN mechanisms, and their transfer to prisons closer to their families in Western Sahara.
The Sahrawi Youth and Students League in France also organized a meeting focusing on the situation of the prisoners, with participants reaffirming their solidarity and commitment to continuing awareness-raising activities.
In Bressuire, the Sahrawi community also participated in the Festival of Cultures, presenting traditional cultural activities and informing the public about the latest developments concerning the Sahrawi cause, particularly the situation of the Gdeim Izik prisoners.
Through these initiatives, the Sahrawi diaspora in France continues its solidarity and awareness-raising efforts in support of Sahrawi political prisoners.
