Shaheed El Hafed (Refugee Camps), 12 July 2025 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, called on the United Nations on Saturday to assume its responsibilities and honor its commitments regarding the decolonization of Western Sahara by enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
"The UN must take responsibility for protecting defenseless Sahrawi citizens in a region under its direct mandate," declared the Sahrawi leader in his opening address at the 7th Ordinary Session of the Polisario Front’s National Secretariat. He urged the world body to "fulfill its obligations toward decolonizing Africa’s last colony."
Ghali further demanded an end to "the policies of the Moroccan occupier, which engages in repression, enforces a blockade, imposes restrictions on all segments of the Sahrawi people, seizes their lands and property, plunders their natural resources, and expels journalists and international observers."
He held Morocco responsible for targeting Sahrawi national unity by attempting to sow division and tarnish the Polisario Front—the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people in their liberation struggle. The occupying state, he asserted, "resorts to the basest means, including flooding Western Sahara with narcotics, backing organized cross-border criminal gangs and terrorist groups, and executing the subversive agendas of colonial and Zionist powers in the region."
On this occasion, President Brahim Ghali paid tribute to the resilience of the Sahrawi people, who continue to confront a brutal occupation with unwavering determination
