Asturias (Spain), 7 April 2025 (SPS) – The Spanish Peace and Solidarity Association of Asturias awarded its Peace and Solidarity Prize to the Secretary-General of the National Union of Sahrawi Women (NUSW), Shaba seini, in recognition of the organization’s efforts in fostering solidarity with women worldwide to promote peace.
The award was presented during the 14th Congress of the Asturias Workers' Union, in a ceremony attended by the President of the Asturian Government, the Mayor, members of various international labor unions.
Ms. Shaba expressed her gratitude for the honor, which the NUSW received in recognition of its "efforts to support and empower Sahrawi women in all fields, strengthen solidarity between the NUSW and women worldwide for peace, and acknowledge the Union’s role in enabling Sahrawi women to stand alongside their global counterparts in advocating for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination."
After dedicating the award to Sahrawi civilian prisoners in Moroccan occupation prisons, Ms. Shaba reaffirmed her organization’s solidarity with national and international campaigns demanding their immediate release.
