Madrid, 19 February 2025 (SPS) - The Polisario Front has strongly condemned the utilization of a commercial event held Wednesday over two days, in the Spanish capital, Madrid, to promote Morocco's illegal occupation of Western Sahara, considering it a violation of international agreements.
The Polisario Front's representative in Spain, Mr. Abdullah Al-Arabi, submitted an official complaint to the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, expressing the Polisario Front's categorical rejection of the inclusion of the occupied territories of Western Sahara in the promotional material for the commercial event hosted at the Cibeles Palace. The event aims to promote economic investments in northern Morocco.
The Sahrawi diplomat warned against such illegal actions that violate international law regarding Western Sahara as a separate and distinct territory from Morocco, as confirmed by the recent ruling of the European Court of Justice last October.
In the complaint, Abdullah Al-Arabi reiterated the Polisario Front's legitimate right to defend the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination and independence, as their sole and legitimate representative.
The Sahrawi diplomat warned of the seriousness of such actions, emphasizing that the Polisario Front will continue to oppose any attempt to undermine the legal status of Western Sahara.
The commercial event in question is the International Business and Investment Fair "IMEX-Madrid 2025," scheduled for February 19 and 20, 2025, at the Cibeles Palace in Madrid, organized by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. The fair aims to promote Spanish investments in northern Morocco.
