New York (United Nations), September 24, 2024 (SPS) - Dr. Sidi Mohamed Amar, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, representative of the Polisario Front at the United Nations, coordinator with MINURSO, met with Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Deputy Secretary-General for Peace Operations.

During the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the United Nations Secretariat, several issues related to the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) were discussed. The Polisario Front's representative at the United Nations and coordinator with MINURSO reaffirmed the Polisario Front's position on this issue and other related matters.

It is expected that the Security Council will hold a closed-door consultation session on MINURSO under the Swiss Presidency in mid-October, in light of the report that the United Nations Secretary-General will submit to the Security Council on the situation in Western Sahara.

The Polisario Front had recently warned the United Nations about the consequences of the repeated brutal attacks on Sahrawi property, which are considered war crimes and a serious escalation in the policy of scorched earth, accompanied by looting practices, land confiscation, and forced displacement, which the Moroccan occupying state is pursuing against the Sahrawis in the occupied Sahrawi territories.

The Polisario Front has repeatedly emphasized that it will never be possible to have a serious and meaningful peace process as long as the Moroccan occupying state, in the complete absence of accountability, continues to violate the provisions of international humanitarian law and international law in the occupied Western Sahara and attempts to impose fait accompli by force in the territory, in the sight and hearing of the United Nations and its mission on the ground.
