Shaheed Al-Hafed, April 24, 2025 (SPS) – The American newspaper The Washington Post issued a correction to a previous article in which it promoted Moroccan claims about the presence of Sahrawi fighters in Syria and alleged ties between the Polisario Front and Iran—claims propagated by the occupying Moroccan state to distort the Sahrawi people’s legitimate struggle for freedom and independence.
This correction, which addressed the Polisario Front’s refutation of these claims, appears to have come after the intense criticism the American newspaper faced for committing a blatant professional error by publishing this biased, propaganda-laden article favoring the Moroccan narrative.
The newspaper’s correction was based on the statement issued by the office of the Polisario Front’s Secretary-General, in which the Front and the government of the Sahrawi Republic condemned all despicable attempts and blatant falsehoods aimed at associating the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people—for their internationally recognized right to self-determination and independence (by regional and international organizations and courts)—with terrorism.
The Polisario Front and the government of the Sahrawi Republic had previously announced their decision to pursue any party or individual that intentionally or unintentionally promotes lies, accusations, or misinformation aimed at tarnishing the Sahrawi people’s just struggle by directly or indirectly linking it to terrorism. They vowed to use all available international legal mechanisms to deter such actions.
These false allegations are part of a frenzied campaign waged by the occupying Moroccan state to tarnish the reputation of the Sahrawi people, while Morocco itself engages in state terrorism against Sahrawis, killing innocent civilians with drone strikes in a war of extermination targeting the Sahrawi population.
