Shaheed El Hafed (Liberated Territories), March 27, 2025 (SPS) – The Polisario Front has reaffirmed that the 1991 UN-African Settlement Plan remains the just and realistic solution to the conflict in Western Sahara.
In a statement today, Thursday, concluding the meeting of the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, chaired by the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, President of the Republic, Mr. Brahim Ghali, the Polisario Front reviewed the latest developments in the national cause at the international level. The Permanent Bureau reiterated the Sahrawi side's adherence to the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination and independence, stressing that the 1991 UN-African Settlement Plan - which aims to organize a referendum—represents the fair, realistic, and mutually agreed-upon solution. This plan was unanimously endorsed by the UN General Assembly, the UN Security Council, and the Organization of African Unity (OAU)/African Union (AU).
Ahead of the upcoming visit to the Sahrawi side by the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, the Permanent Bureau reaffirmed its willingness to engage in constructive cooperation with the United Nations to advance the political process it leads. This process aims to decolonize Western Sahara based on the Sahrawi people’s exercise of its inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
