Timor-Leste’s National Parliament approved resolution to establish Parliamentary Commission to accompany Western Sahara issue

Dili (Timor-Leste) March 11, 2025 - Timor-Leste’s National Parliament in Solidarity with the Saharawi just cause approved on Monday 10th, March 2025 a resolution to establish a Parliamentary Commission to accompany the issue of Western Sahara.

Timor-Leste’s National Parliament Commission for Western Sahara is composed of all the political parties represented in the Timorese Parliament; three Parliamentarians from the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction Party (CNRT), two from the Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (FRETILIN), one from Democratic Party (PD), one from People's Liberation Party (PLP) and one from KUNTO Party.

The Saharawi Republic (SADR) Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Mr. Malainin Abba said on this important occasion: “ The Timorese National Parliament approval yesterday of a resolution to create a Parliamentary Commission to accompany the issue of Western Sahara is great Solidarity stand and a real Commitment from the Parliament, the Political Parties represented in National Parliament and the Timorese people at large towards the Struggle of the Saharawi people to exercise their right to free Self-determination, Independence and full Sovereignty over the Saharawi Republic (SADR).

It is worth noting that Timor-Leste Parliament’s former Commission for Western Sahara, which was also composed of all the political parties represented in the Timorese Parliament participated on  December 2022 in the 46th European Conference of Support and Solidarity with Saharawi People (EUCOCO) in Berlin, Germany.
