Abuja (Nigeria) 10 January 2025 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Brahim Salem Buseif, addressed a heartfelt condolence letter to the family of the late Professor Nuhu Yacoub, a staunch advocate for the Sahrawi cause and a beloved figure in the Nigerian Solidarity Movement with the Sahrawi people.
In his message, Ambassador Buseif expressed profound sorrow on learning of the passing of Professor Nuhu, describing it as an "irreparable loss" not only to his family and friends but also to the Sahrawi people and the broader solidarity movement in Nigeria.
"On behalf of the Sahrawi Government, I convey my sincere condolences to his bereaved family and the entire Nigerian Solidarity Movement with the Sahrawi people. The Sahrawi people will keep his name in their memory and remain grateful for his unwavering support and solidarity," wrote the Ambassador.
Professor Nuhu Yacoub, a distinguished academic and dedicated ally of the Sahrawi cause, was born on March 3, 1951, in Okene, Nigeria. He began his educational journey with Qur’anic studies, completing them in 1963, and later attended Nurul Islam Primary School in Okene. His career saw him serve as a teacher at Lennon Memorial College before becoming a graduate assistant at the University of Sokoto, which is now Usmanu Danfodio University. His illustrious career culminated in his role as Vice-Chancellor at the University of Abuja.
The Sahrawi people deeply mourn the loss of a steadfast friend and advocate whose efforts significantly contributed to raising awareness about their struggle for self-determination.
"We belong to Allah and, surely, to Him we shall return," concluded Ambassador Buseif, reaffirming the solidarity and eternal gratitude of the Sahrawi nation to the legacy of Professor Nuhu Yacoub. (SPS)
