Rabat (Morocco), December 17, 2024 (SPS) – Moroccan human rights activists affirmed that enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, as stipulated by international law, is the only way to resolve the dispute in Western Sahara. They highlighted that the Moroccan regime exploits the Sahrawi issue to divert attention from its internal crisis.
In this context, Moroccan human rights activist residing in Iceland, Mohamed Qandil, reaffirmed his support for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination, stating that his stance is based, first, on history, and second, on international legitimacy, as represented by relevant United Nations and Security Council resolutions.
Regarding the stance of the President of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights, Aziz Ghali, on the Western Sahara issue, who expressed support for the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination, Qandil emphasized that it is "a logical, sound, and unequivocal position that aligns with the will of the United Nations and the international community."
For his part, Moroccan opposition figure residing in Belgium, Mohamed Belfallah, reiterated his support for the Sahrawi people's struggle against the occupation of its land, stressing that "organizing a self-determination referendum is the way to resolve this prolonged conflict."
