Shaheed Al-Hafed, November 6, 2024 (SPS) - The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training is chairing the 5th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, taking place virtually from 4th – 8th November 2024, under the theme: “Strategies and Processes for Effective Transformation of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation for the 21st Century Africa we want”.
The Ministerial Session of the Specialized Technical Committee will take place on the 7th and 8th of November, and will be chaired by member of the National Secretariat, Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Khatri Adouh. This will be will be preceded by the Experts Session, on the 4th and 5th of November, during which a general session and two parallel sessions were held — one focused on Education and the other on Science, Technology, and Innovation. These sessions were chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Mustafa Mohamed Fadel, and the Counselor in charge of African Union Affairs, Mr. Hamdi Salek.
The 5th Ordinary Session of the Specialized Technical Committee on Education Science and Technology will elect the 5th Bureau that will serve a two-year tenure (2025 - 2027). Ministers will be updated on the implementation status of ongoing programs in education and science, technology and innovation in the continent based on the continental strategies. New Draft Continental Strategies for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation will also be adopted, along with decisions and recommendations for consideration by the Executive Council and Assembly in the February 2025 Summit.
Participating in this 5th Ordinary Session are the Member State Ministers in charge of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, their relevant Senior Officials and Experts, and Senior Officials and mangers of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation from African Union Organs, Specialized Technical Offices and Agencies, Regional Economic Communities, African Capacity Building Foundation, African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), and African Development Bank, relevant UN Agencies, International and Regional institutions and relevant Development Partners.
