Shaheed El-Hafed (Refugee Camps), 4 October 2024 (SPS) - The representative of the Polisario Front to the UN and coordinator with MINURSO, Sidi Mohamed Omar, stated on Friday that the Sahrawi leaders had informed the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, that the Sahrawi people were determined to continue their struggle until they regain sovereignty over all their territories.

In a statement to APS, Mr. Sidi Mohamed Omar emphasized the importance of the envoy's visit on Thursday to the Sahrawi refugee camps, which is part of his meeting with both parties to the conflict (Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco) before presenting his briefing to the Security Council on October 16.

After recalling the legal nature of the Sahrawi issue, which is a matter of decolonization, the leaders of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) reaffirmed to Mr. de Mistura their commitment to cooperating with the UN and the African Union (AU) in order to achieve a "durable and just resolution" to the conflict in Western Sahara based on "the respect of the principles and objectives of the AU's Constitutive Act," the Sahrawi diplomat noted.
