Shaheed El Hafed, 9 October 2023 (SPS) - The Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front has reaffirmed its determination to continue the struggle until the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination is restored, within the framework of UN efforts to implement the decolonization process of the Sahrawi territories.

The Polisario Front stated in a communiqué released at the end of a meeting of its Permanent Bureau, held on Sunday evening and chaired by the President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, that it had received a report of the meeting that brought together the latter with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, who will submit a report to the UN Security Council.

In this regard, the Bureau reaffirmed the clear position of the Polisario Front, in cooperation with UN efforts to implement the UN-OAU settlement plan of 1991 for the decolonization of the last colony in Africa.

The Bureau also insisted on the continuation of the Sahrawi people's struggle by all legitimate means until the achievement of its objectives, such as the recovery of its right to self-determination and its sovereignty over its entire national territory.

Reviewing the situation in the occupied territories, the Permanent Bureau of the Polisario Front condemned the practices perpetrated by the Moroccan occupier against defenseless Sahrawi civilians, including repression and the blockade imposed on them.

On this occasion, the Bureau called on the UN to "honor its commitments to a zone of international conflict under its responsibility and to guarantee the rights of its people to self-determination and independence, including the sovereignty of the Sahrawi people over its natural resources", calling for an urgent mobilization to free the "Gdeim Izik" group as well as all civilian detainees in Moroccan prisons.

The Permanent Bureau also mentioned the new developments taking place on the ground and the continuation of the fighting of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) against the entrenched positions of the Moroccan occupying forces, along the separation wall.

Evoking the serious developments in Palestine, the Permanent Bureau of the Polisario Front reaffirmed the solidarity of the Sahrawi people with the Palestinian people.

For the Bureau, "a just peace can only be realized by allowing the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights in the establishment of their independent State, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital."
