The Sahrawi Republic participates in the 4th Ordinary Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee (STC)

Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), May 16, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Republic is participating at the 4th Ordinary Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals (TTIM) being held from 13 to 17 May 2024 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea under the theme “Enhancing Africa’s Trade Competitiveness through Tourism, Industrial and Mineral Resources Development”.

The deliberations of the ordinary session review drafts of the Revised Rules of Procedures, African Union Green Minerals Strategy, E-Commerce Strategy, AU Stakeholder Engagement Manual, and Africa Quality Policy Council confirmation, among others.

The ministerial meeting is scheduled to discuss the African Union’s startup policy framework, which envisions the transformative potential of entrepreneurs in Africa and the startup ecosystem in order to support Africa’s economy, create jobs, improve lives, sustain the positive social and economic results achieved, protect Africa’s future, and drive development towards promising horizons characterized by justice and transparency.

Among the topics raised by the experts to the fourth meeting of the Technical Committee was the establishment of African Tourism Associations and the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

During the meeting, the Sahrawi Republic made many valuable contributions, all of which urged the settlement of trade disputes, the unification of customs tariffs, and the push of continental trade towards promising horizons that would allow its peoples greater growth and social prosperity.

The Sahrawi Republic was represented at this meeting by the Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mr. Laman Abaali.
