Shahid al-Hafed, February 26, 2024 (SPS) - The Sahrawi people will commemorate tomorrow, Tuesday, the 48th anniversary of the declaration of the Sahrawi Republic, which falls on February 27, amid international and continental gains achieved by the Sahrawi issue at various levels.
The event will be commemorated in light of unprecedented international and regional changes that the world is witnessing regionally and internationally, including returning to square zero after the resumption of the armed struggle between the Polisario Front and the Moroccan occupation on November 13, 2020, in addition to the tense international situation, as a result of what is happening in Gaza in light of the terrible silence of the international community.
The Sahrawi people are celebrating the 48th anniversary of the founding of the Sahrawi state amid political and diplomatic “gains” at the international and continental levels, including the devotion of the membership of the Sahrawi Republic in the Organization of African Unity (African Union) as a founding member despite the conspiracies of Morocco and its allies.
In this context, the African Union played a vital role in concerning the Sahrawi issue, after it forced Morocco to sit side by side with the Sahrawi state, and enabled it to participate in all international partnership conferences with Japan and the European Union, despite the desperate Moroccan attempts to sow doubts about the legitimacy of the membership of the Sahrawi state in the African Union, which is a founding member of the continental organization.
The Sahrawi people commemorate this important event, which enjoys a “distinctive” status, in light of the absence of any state or organization that recognizes Morocco’s expansionist “claims” in Western Sahara, which remains a matter of decolonization according to the decisions and recommendations of the General Assembly and the UN Security Council.
It is expected that the President of the Republic and the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, will address the Sahrawi people tonight, in which he will talk about the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue regionally and internationally.
The Wilaya of Smara will host tomorrow the official celebrations commemorating the 48th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic, which will be officially supervised by the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, in the presence of foreign delegations in solidarity with the Sahrawi people.
