National Council, October 06, 2026 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, has confirmed that preparing for the 17th Congress of the Front represents a national and historic responsibility.
He called on the members of the Preparatory Committee to exert every effort to deepen and enrich the national debate, thereby contributing to the success of this event and bringing the Sahrawi people closer to their goals.
In his official speech during the committee's inauguration ceremony, President Brahim Ghali emphasized the importance of the committee opening up to the various viewpoints of Sahrawi society. He considered that direct engagement with the people will provide a more effective ground for formulating programs and laws that respond to the demands of the current phase and serve the objectives to be defined by the congress.
He stressed that the task entrusted to the members of the committee is difficult and requires significant effort, urging them to assume their responsibilities in preparing for the congress across all aspects—particularly regarding the enrichment of the national dialogue and identifying the best ways to ensure the success of this organizational and political milestone.
The President stressed that the formation of the Preparatory Committee took place with the participation of various national institutions, reflecting the importance of broadening participation in the congress preparation process and opening the floor to diverse views and visions to help shape its outcomes.
He noted that the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front provided a set of documents as a platform to facilitate the committee's work, stressing that the coming phase requires finalizing an integrated state project and transitioning to the building stage once the liberation process is completed.
Brahim Ghali called for the upcoming national debate to be a "revolutionary discussion committed to the goals and principles of the Polisario Front," allowing for practical conclusions that address shortcomings, strengthen the national project, and confront the challenges facing it.
He affirmed that the outcomes of this debate should contribute to safeguarding the national project and reinforcing its institutions, leading to the building of the Sahrawi Republic's institutions across its entire territory.
These directives come as part of the preparations for the 17th Congress of the Polisario Front, following the National Secretariat's approval during its extraordinary session of the Preparatory Committee's formation, in accordance with the provisions of the Front's basic law issued by the 16th Congress.
