Bir Lehlu, September 24, 2026 (SPS) – President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, has formally accepted an invitation extended by Ugandan President and Chairperson of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for the Sahrawi Republic to accede to the continental mechanism.
In a letter addressed to President Museveni dated September 16, President Brahim Ghali conveyed, on behalf of the government and people of the Sahrawi Republic, his formal acceptance of the invitation, which was extended on July 8, 2026.
President Ghali expressed his appreciation for the invitation and commended President Museveni's leadership of the APRM, emphasizing the Sahrawi Republic's shared commitment to promoting good governance, transparency, political stability and sustainable socio-economic development across Africa.
He underlined that the Sahrawi Republic views the APRM as an important continental framework for advancing the objectives of "The Africa We Want," based on the principles of solidarity, mutual accountability and self-assessment.
President Ghali stressed that, by joining the mechanism, the Sahrawi Republic, as a founding member of the African Union, reaffirms its commitment to the principles and values enshrined in the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
He further expressed the Sahrawi Republic's readiness to work closely with President Museveni, the APRM Secretariat and fellow member states in order to contribute constructively to achieving the mechanism's objectives.
The African Peer Review Mechanism is an African Union initiative established to promote good governance, accountability and sustainable development through voluntary self-assessment and peer review among participating member states.
