El Aaiun Wilaya, August 5, 2026 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, affirmed that Sahrawi students have consistently served as a vital source of qualified professionals and leadership, making significant contributions across various sectors.
In his address at the opening of the Fifth Congress of the Union of Students of Saguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro, President Ghali stated that Sahrawi students have always constituted a distinguished reservoir of dedicated militants, qualified executives, and professionals, embodying the continuity between the generations of the Sahrawi Revolution.
He noted that they have made outstanding contributions, not only through their distinguished role—now needed more than ever—within the ranks of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army, but also in strategic fields such as education and healthcare, as well as in the various institutions and administrations of the Sahrawi State, both domestically and abroad.
The President of the Republic added that students have played a leading role in fueling and leading the struggle for liberation, offering generations of martyrs, missing persons, and political prisoners. They have fought on the battlefronts and endured imprisonment and secret detention centers during the struggle against Spanish colonialism and, in particular, in the confrontation with the Moroccan occupation.
President Ghali further emphasized that Sahrawi students have remained steadfast and resilient on the front lines of the national struggle in the occupied territories, southern Morocco, and university campuses. They have been present wherever direct confrontation with the occupying forces has taken place, leading heroic forms of resistance in universities and higher education institutes. They also stood at the forefront of the Blessed Independence Intifada, where many were subjected to severe repression, persecution, arbitrary detention, and assassination.
