Every year on June 9, the Sahrawi people honor the memory of their martyrs, foremost among them El Ouali Mustapha Sayed, the founder of the Sahrawi revolution. He was martyred in the prime of his youth after laying the foundations of the Sahrawi state within a short period. His leadership was distinguished by exceptional qualities rarely found in a historical leader, encompassing military, diplomatic, political, cultural, and media fields. He devoted his life to serving the people and advancing their cause.
On this occasion, the Sahrawi people also remember all those who sacrificed their lives throughout the various stages of the revolution—those who fell on the battlefield confronting the occupation, those who died in prisons, and those who passed away while fulfilling their national duties in different arenas and fronts of the struggle against the occupying forces.
