Shaheed El Hafed, 23 March 2026 (SPS) – The meeting hall of the Ministry of National Defence hosted today, Monday, the ceremony in which National Secretariat member Hamma Salama officially assumed the duties of Chief of the General Staff of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army, succeeding Mohamed El-Wali Akeik, who was appointed Minister-Advisor at the Presidency of the Republic.
The handover ceremony was supervised by the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Mr. Brahim Ghali, in the presence of the Army General Staff, regional commanders, central directors and advisers.
During the ceremony, the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, congratulated Hamma Salama on the confidence placed in him, while also praising the great efforts made by the outgoing commander, Mohamed El-Wali Akeik, throughout his tenure as Chief of the General Staff of the Army.
The Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces added that the current stage requires unity and readiness in order to achieve the desired objectives.
The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, had earlier issued a presidential decree introducing changes within the military institution, appointing Hamma Salama as Chief of the General Staff of the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army.
