Algiers, 30 November 2025 (SPS) – Member of the National Secretariat, ambassador to Algeria, Khatri Addouh, received a Portuguese delegation that was on a solidarity visit to the refugee camps and institutions of the Sahrawi state.
The delegation, which includes more than 40 figures from various bodies and organizations active in Portuguese society—such as the Portuguese Workers’ Confederation, representatives of the Education Union of the National Confederation of Portuguese Workers, the Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation, the Union of Democratic Women, the Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters and Resisters, the International Association for Portuguese Friendship and Cooperation, the “Red Lines” Cultural Friendship Association, and the Portuguese–Sahrawi Friendship Association.
During this visit, which took them to several institutions of the Sahrawi Republic, the Portuguese delegation learned about the situation of the Sahrawi refugees and the Sahrawi experience in managing social institutions established under refugee conditions with limited resources.
Members of the delegation expressed their admiration for the visit and for the Sahrawi experience in building these institutions, which reflect the steadfastness and determination of a resisting people committed to continuing their struggle until they attain their legitimate rights and establish their independent state.
The Portuguese delegation affirmed its readiness to provide further support and solidarity to the Sahrawi people and their just cause.
For his part, the ambassador expressed his gratitude to the Portuguese delegation for its solidarity and support for the Sahrawi cause, noting Portugal’s role in defending and preserving security and stability in the region.
The ambassador also addressed the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause and the political and diplomatic gains it continues to achieve, recalling the international network of support and solidarity that the Sahrawi cause enjoys worldwide.
The meeting took place at the embassy headquarters and was attended by the Polisario Front’s representative in Portugal, Mih Omar, and his deputy, Baba Omar El-Bardi.
