London (United Kingdom), 12 November 2025 (SPS) – The British Parliament hosted a political evening organized by a group of parliamentarians supporting the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence, together with solidarity associations in the United Kingdom and the POLISARIO Front Representation.

The event was attended by political and diplomatic figures, academics, artists interested in the Sahrawi cause, as well as members of the Sahrawi community residing in the UK.

The evening featured speeches by MP Ben Lake, former chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People; Mr. Omar Mansour, the Sahrawi Ambassador in charge of Europe and European institutions; Mr. Sidi Breika, POLISARIO Representative in Ireland; and Mr. Hamdi Yousef, Deputy POLISARIO Representative in the United Kingdom.

The speakers discussed the latest developments in the Sahrawi national cause, particularly the recent United Nations Security Council resolution, as well as the position of the British government regarding the decolonization process in Western Sahara — recognized as the last colony in Africa.

Participating British parliamentarians reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Sahrawi people’s right to freedom and self-determination, emphasizing the need to continue political and humanitarian efforts to achieve a just and lasting solution in accordance with international legality.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Mark Letchfield, Chair of the Western Sahara Campaign, reaffirmed the solidarity movement’s continued commitment to standing with the struggling Sahrawi people and its unconditional defense of their just and noble cause — a mission the organization has pursued since its establishment in 1985.

The event also announced the formation of the British Parliamentary Group for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, an initiative aimed at strengthening the political presence of the Sahrawi cause within the UK Parliament and advocating for it in British political and media circles, particularly within the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
