Shaheed El Hafed, 28 October 2025 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, has sent a congratulatory message to the President-elect of Ireland, H.E. Mrs. Catherine Connolly, on the occasion of her victory in the presidential elections.

On behalf of the Sahrawi people and the Frente POLISARIO, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you and the people of the Republic of Ireland, as you celebrate your landslide victory in the presidential elections, which represents a victory for Irish citizens who champion and trust in universal justice and the inalienable right of peoples to self-determination and independence.
I look forward to continuing our friendship and the strong and close partnership between our two nations. For the Sahrawi people, your great achievement represents hope and a continued commitment of the Republic of Ireland of defending just causes all over the world, including the principled position of your country in support for the inalienable right of our people to self-determination as confirmed by the UN resolutions and the European Court of Justice.
Our work together for justice, prosperity, democracy and peace and for defending the rules-based international order and confronting the challenges of our times, including the erosion of global norms and invasive unilateralism, is even more important
I have always cherished my visits to the Republic of Ireland, and I remember fondly the warm receptions bestowed upon me by President Michael D Higgins. It has always been a great pleasure to be welcomed in your hospitable country and learn more about the struggle for freedom, independence and dignity and the brave Irish men and women who made tremendous sacrifices to create a better future for their people.
