El Aaiún (Occupied Western Sahara), July 7, 2026 (SPS) – In an escalatory protest reflecting unity and solidarity behind the bars of the occupation's prisons, the Gdeim Izik group of Sahrawi civilian prisoners, held in various Moroccan prisons, announced on Monday that they will stage a two-day warning hunger strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 7–8, in solidarity with their fellow prisoner, Naâma Abdi Moussa Asfari.

According to a statement issued by the Sahrawi Prisoners Protection League in Moroccan Prisons, a copy of which was received by the Sahara Press Service (SPS), this marks the prisoners' third protest action aimed at denouncing the critical health condition of Asfari, who has now entered the 29th consecutive day of his open-ended hunger strike (which began on June 8) inside Kenitra Central Prison. He is protesting the harsh conditions of his detention and the serious violations suffered by Sahrawi prisoners.

The League, citing the families of the Sahrawi civilian prisoners, reported that the prisoners reaffirmed their determination to continue their "battle of empty stomachs," holding the Moroccan occupying state fully responsible for the life and safety of their fellow prisoner. They also called for the immediate fulfillment of his legal and humanitarian demands.
