Madrid (Spain), April 18, 2026 (SPS) – Enrique Santiago, a member of the Spanish Parliament from the United Left party within the Sumar coalition, announced his intention to formally raise the case of two Sahrawi students on hunger strike in Moroccan occupation prisons—Brahim Babit and Salah Eddine Sabbar—before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Parliament.
This Spanish parliamentary move comes amid growing international attention to the issue of Sahrawi prisoners, particularly as the two students enter their 13th day of hunger strike in Ait Melloul 2 prison, on the outskirts of the city of Agadir. The protest step reflects the level of tension inside Moroccan occupation prisons, according to statements from the prisoners’ families and human rights activists.
Observers believe that bringing the issue before the Spanish Parliament could increase pressure on the Moroccan occupation, especially as European human rights voices continue to call for independent investigations into the conditions of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons.
