Basque Country (Spain), March 15, 2026 (SPS) – A humanitarian aid convoy organized by the Basque solidarity movement departed yesterday, Saturday, from the city of San Sebastián, with the support of residents and public institutions across cities and municipalities of the Basque country. The departure ceremony was attended by the city’s mayor, representatives of friendship associations, and the representative of the Polisario Front in the Basque region.
Organizations in solidarity with the Sahrawi people worked diligently to send this humanitarian aid, which mainly consists of medical supplies, food provisions, and logistical support for Sahrawi institutions. These contributions are expected to strengthen the foundations of resilience in the refugee camps and reinforce the capacity of the Sahrawi people to endure the difficult conditions of displacement imposed by the situation of Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara.
The representative of the Polisario Front in the Basque country stated that this convoy is a continuation of the humanitarian and solidarity work through which Basque civil society expresses its support for and accompaniment of the Sahrawi people in their just struggle until international legitimacy is achieved and decolonization of Western Sahara is completed.
For his part, the mayor of San Sebastián affirmed that the convoy, which carries more than one hundred tons of aid, reflects a humanitarian commitment that friendship associations have long organized in support of the resilience of the Sahrawi people and their state institutions.
