Barcelona (Spain), 13 December 2025 (SPS) — The Sahrawi community in Catalonia, together with the representation of the Polisario Front, organized a demonstration in front of the European Commission to demand an end to the serious violations committed by the occupying state against defenseless Sahrawis in the occupied cities of Western Sahara.

The demonstration was held on the occasion of the commemoration of International Human Rights Day and the marking of the 62nd anniversary of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1514, which affirms the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.

Participants in the protest, during which national flags were raised and photographs of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons were displayed, called for an immediate end to the grave human rights violations committed by the Moroccan occupying state against our people in the occupied territories, the establishment of a UN mechanism to monitor and protect human rights, and the immediate release of all Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan prisons.

The demonstration also condemned the involvement of the European Union—particularly the European Commission—in violating the rulings of the Court of Justice of the European Union issued on 4 October 2024, and in continuing to sign agreements with the Moroccan occupier to pursue the plundering of Sahrawi natural resources.

Participants further demanded respect for the Sahrawi people’s right to decolonization and independence, the implementation of United Nations resolutions starting with General Assembly Resolution 1514, and the fulfillment of the international commitment to the Sahrawi people to complete the decolonization process of the last African colony.

The demonstration included the reading of a statement holding Spain accountable for its historical responsibilities as the administering power of its former colony, in accordance with international law, European law, and the ruling of the Spanish Supreme Court issued in June 2014.
