Luanda (Angola), 23 November 2025 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic participated today, Sunday, in the experts meeting bringing together ambassadors of African and European countries taking part in the 7th African Union–European Union Summit, held in Luanda, Angola, as part of the preparations for the summit scheduled for 24–25 November 2025.
The Sahrawi Republic was represented in the experts meeting by Ambassador Lamine Baali, the Sahrawi Permanent Representative to the African Union, accompanied by the Sahrawi Ambassador to Angola, Hamdi El Khalil Mayara. The meeting forms part of the preparatory work ahead of the gathering of Heads of State and Government of both unions.
The Sahrawi Republic is expected to participate at the highest level in the Heads of State and Government’s meeting on 24–25 November, with a high-level delegation led by President Brahim Ghali, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and senior officials. The summit will bring together leaders of the member states of both the African Union and the European Union.
The seventh summit will address a set of strategic issues within the framework of the partnership between the two continents, including strengthening the shared commitment to multilateralism, solidarity, and joint action to tackle common challenges; peace, security, and good governance; and supporting African mechanisms for conflict prevention and post-conflict reconstruction.
The summit will also discuss development and economic prosperity, including the green and digital transitions, investment, sustainable energy, infrastructure, human development, education and mobility programs, youth and culture, women’s empowerment, social inclusion, environmental cooperation, and efforts to address climate change and protect the planet.
The summit will be co-chaired by João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and Chairperson of the African Union, together with António Costa, President of the European Council. It will also be attended by Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
This summit comes as the African–European partnership marks its 25th anniversary, celebrating decades of cooperation in peace, development, innovation, education, and humanitarian action.
Brussels hosted the sixth AU–EU Summit in 2022, attended by the President of the Sahrawi Republic, Mr. Ibrahim Ghali, accompanied by a high-level delegation. (SPS)
