President Brahim Ghali holds talks with his Angolan counterpart

Luanda (Angola), November 12, 2025 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, held talks with his Angolan counterpart, President João Lourenço, on the sidelines of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence, held in the capital, Luanda, in the presence of several heads of state and government.

President Ghali renewed his congratulations to President Lourenço on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence, wishing him and the brotherly Angolan people continued progress and prosperity in all fields.

The meeting also served as an opportunity for President Brahim Ghali to praise the vital role Angola plays under its presidency of the African Union in supporting just causes, particularly the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people for self-determination and independence.

The Sahrawi Republic and Angola maintain strong and deeply rooted relations dating back to Angola’s liberation struggle. The two countries have ambassadorial-level diplomatic relations, and the founder of the Angolan state, Dr. Agostinho Neto, recognized the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic on March 11, 1976.

The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, arrived Monday in the Angolan capital, Luanda, to participate in the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence, scheduled for November 11 and 12, at the invitation of his counterpart, João Lourenço.

President Brahim Ghali is accompanied by a delegation composed of Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, Secretary in charge of Research, Studies, and Information at the Secretariat of Political Organization, member of the National Secretariat, Maluma Larbas, Presidential Adviser Abdati Brieka, Chief of Presidential Protocol, Ambassador Salha El Abed, and the Sahrawi Ambassador to Angola, Hamdi Khalil Mayara.
