Banjul (Gambia), October 24, 2025 (SPS) – Algeria has reaffirmed its firm and principled support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence, during the 85th Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), held in the Gambian capital, Banjul.
The Algerian representative called on the Commission to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities regarding the situation in Western Sahara, in accordance with the spirit and principles of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
Ms. Amina Ramdani, a diplomat with the Algerian mission in Addis Ababa and Algeria’s representative at the session, reiterated that her country “reaffirms its unwavering support for the brotherly Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and to end the occupation imposed on their territory,” highlighting Algeria’s historic position in support of all liberation movements across Africa and the world.
The Algerian diplomat also urged the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights to “implement the Executive Council’s decisions regarding a fact-finding mission on the human rights situation in the occupied Western Sahara,” emphasizing that such a mission must be conducted “free from any political interpretations that could undermine the Commission’s credibility.”
