Castilla-La Mancha (Spain), October 23, 2025 (SPS) - Mr. Ubbi Bushraya Bashir, the Special Advisor to the President in charge of Natural Resources and Related Legal Issues, affirmed that "the European Union's responsibility regarding the deadlock and impasse in the international settlement process for Western Sahara is not incidental but direct, stemming from its deliberate and repeated violation of the European Court of Justice's rulings and the signing of agreements with Morocco that include Western Sahara."

He added that "the repeated violations sent negative signals to Morocco, encouraging it to proceed with intransigence and obstruct the efforts of the United Nations and its envoys to Western Sahara." Furthermore, "the insistence of EU member states, under clear pressure and encouragement from France, to continue plundering the wealth of the Sahrawi people in cooperation with Morocco has significantly helped ensure the continued funding of the occupation, both in its economic and settlement dimensions."

The Sahrawi official emphasized during a lecture delivered at a study day organized on October 21, at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo, Spain, that "the blatant and obvious violation, along with the non-transparent and undemocratic path chosen by the European Commission to impose a fait accompli and sign a new agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco that includes occupied Western Sahara, constitutes additional evidence of the European Union's decision to continue violating its own laws to serve the agenda of the Moroccan occupation."

He concluded by noting that "the fate of the new agreement will be no better than its predecessors. It is a clear and blatant violation of the October 2024 rulings of the European Court of Justice.

The Polisario Front, the legitimate and sole representative of the Sahrawi people, armed with the legal capacity to litigate before European courts, will spare no effort in defending the rights of the Sahrawi people and their sovereignty over their natural resources, based on their inalienable right to self-determination and independence," he added.
