Dakhla (Occupied Western Sahara), October 9, 2025 – The Coordination Mechanism for Human Rights in occupied Dakhla confirmed Thursday that organizing any economic activity without the approval of the Polisario Front — the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people — is a violation of international law and the rulings of the European Court of Justice.
In a statement received by SPS, the Mechanism explained that any economic or commercial activity on the land of occupied Western Sahara without the consent of its sole legitimate representative, the Polisario Front, constitutes a blatant breach of international law and of the rulings of the European Court of Justice, which has repeatedly affirmed that Morocco has no sovereignty over the territory, and that any exploitation of its resources or investment on its lands without the Sahrawi people's consent is null and void.
The statement pointed to the involvement of official French companies in this matter, asserting that it constitutes direct complicity in supporting the Moroccan occupation. It exposes the double standards of France — between the publicly declared discourse that praises international law and the rights of peoples, and the actual practices that violate those principles and legitimize looting and forced annexation.
The Coordination held both the French and Moroccan governments fully responsible for all political and legal consequences of this provocative action, emphasizing that all agreements and contracts signed on the land of occupied Western Sahara are considered null and void under international law and the rulings of European courts.
The statement called on all progressive forces, human rights, trade union, and economic organizations around the world to explicitly condemn this economic and political crime, and to pressure the French companies involved in the forum to immediately withdraw their participation, in respect for international legitimacy and European judicial decisions.
The Coordination affirmed that the Sahrawi people will continue their legitimate resistance through all peaceful and legal means until they regain full sovereignty over their national territory. It emphasized that all attempts at normalization with the occupation will be met with rejection and resistance, reiterating the absolute right of the Sahrawi people to freedom and independence, and their refusal of any form of partnership, investment, or international presence on their occupied land. It concluded by stating that anyone who contributes to these activities places themselves in a position of complicity with the Moroccan occupation.
