Nonantola (Italy), August 2, 2026 (SPS) – The Italian regions hosting Sahrawi children during the months of July and August celebrated Sahrawi Culture Day on Saturday in the municipality of Nonantola.
Observed annually on August 1, the event aims to promote awareness of the identity, traditions, and cultural heritage of the Sahrawi people.
The event was held in the Italian municipality of Nonantola and was attended by the Chair of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Sahrawi People, the Polisario Front Representative in Italy, municipal authorities, the President of the Kabara Laghdaf Association, Italian host families, as well as members of solidarity associations and the Sahrawi community in Italy.
The celebration featured a variety of activities designed to introduce Italian society to Sahrawi culture, including musical and poetry performances, traditional cuisine, handicrafts, and other elements representing the traditions and heritage of the Sahrawi people.
The gathering also highlighted the deep bonds of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity that have been built over decades between the Italian and Sahrawi peoples.
