New York (United Nations), July 3, 2025 (SPS) – Dr. Sidi Mohamed Omar, a member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, the Polisario Front’s representative at the UN and coordinator with MINURSO, affirmed that the Moroccan occupation has failed to alter the legal framework of Western Sahara as a decolonization issue. He emphasized that what it could not achieve by force over the past decades, it will not accomplish through a policy of buying consciences.

In a statement to the Algerian Press Service (APS), Ambassador Sidi Mohamed Omar stated: "Thanks to the resistance, determination, and steadfastness of the Sahrawi people over nearly five decades, the occupying Moroccan state has failed to gain international legitimacy for its occupation of Western Sahara or impose a fait accompli policy. Now, we see it attempting to bolster its position with stances based on transactional logic adopted by certain governments."

The Sahrawi diplomat stressed that "these positions change absolutely nothing regarding the international status of Western Sahara as a decolonization issue on the agenda of the United Nations and its relevant bodies." He added, "What the occupying state could not achieve through brute force over the past decades, it will not achieve through a stance or statement from this or that government."

He pointed out that "bribery, corruption, and buying consciences are the primary tools relied upon by the diplomacy of the occupying Moroccan state—the same tools used to bribe certain governments and individuals in exchange for promises that are, in reality, nothing but sandcastles."

In this context, the Polisario Front’s representative at the UN cited the "Maroc Gate" scandal, which exposed the involvement of the Makhzen regime in bribery, corruption, and participation in a criminal organization to influence current and former members of the European Parliament.

Regarding this, he said: "Investigations by Belgian authorities have revealed further details of this scandal, which has shaken European institutions, at a time when many members of the European Parliament have called for punishing the Moroccan regime for its criminal behavior, akin to that of Mafia gangs."

In conclusion, the diplomat highlighted the growing international support for the Sahrawi cause, despite all the maneuvers of the Moroccan occupation, which employs every dirty tactic in an attempt to legitimize its occupation of Western Sahara. The Sahrawi people remain steadfast in their inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination, freedom, and independence.
