New York (United Nations), 22 June 2025 (SPS) – Sidi Mohamed Omar, a member of the National Secretariat, the Polisario Front’s representative to the United Nations, and the coordinator with MINURSO, reaffirmed the Sahrawi people’s determination to continue their liberation struggle until they achieve their non-negotiable goals of freedom, independence, and the restoration of sovereignty over their entire territory.

In a statement to Sahrawi Television, Sidi Mohamed Omar highlighted the positions of support and solidarity expressed by countries from different continents during their interventions before the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization (Committee of 24), where they voiced their backing for the Sahrawi cause and reiterated their call to end colonization in the last remaining colony in Africa.

Regarding the importance of human rights issues during the committee’s session, he emphasized that the human rights situation in the occupied Sahrawi territories was, as always, strongly addressed in the interventions of member states and petitioners before the committee, turning the session into a platform to condemn the Moroccan occupying state.

Concerning future prospects for the UN-led peace process in Western Sahara amid current regional and international circumstances, Sidi Mohamed Omar noted that the world is going through a sensitive phase due to escalating crises, unilateral policies, and their impact—among other factors—on international peace and security.

In this context, he pointed out that the UN peace process and the mission of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara remain stagnant due to two key factors: the stance of the Moroccan occupying state, which continues to entrench its illegal occupation, and the reluctance of some influential UN Security Council members, which encourages the occupying state to persist in its rejection of a just, lasting, and internationally legitimate solution.

In conclusion, the Polisario Front’s representative to the UN and coordinator with MINURSO affirmed that "no matter the scale of international challenges, the constant in this complex conflict equation is the Sahrawi people, who firmly cling to their inalienable right to self-determination and independence and remain steadfast in continuing their legitimate struggle and resistance to establish sovereignty over the entire territory of the Sahrawi Republic."
