Wilaya of Dakhla, April 18, 2025 (SPS) – The proceedings of the 10th Congress of the General Union of Workers of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO) commenced today, Friday, in the wilaya of Dakhla, with the participation of over 400 delegates representing Sahrawi workers and 80 participants from various labor unions and foreign delegations in solidarity with the Sahrawi people’s struggle and its just cause.
The opening session was attended by the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, alongside members of the National Secretariat, the Sahrawi government, and the National Council.
Held under the name of the martyr Mahjoub Brahim and the slogan "Sahrawi Workers: A Pledge of Loyalty on the Path of the Martyrs," the congress will continue over three days, featuring an international solidarity conference in support of the Sahrawi people.
Participants in the 10th Sahrawi Workers’ Congress will review the narrative and financial reports of the previous term, establish committees to develop the union’s action strategy for the next three years, and revise the basic statutes of labor organizations. Additionally, the congress will elect the union’s leadership, including the Secretary-General and members of the Executive Bureau, and renew regional structures.
The Workers’ Union is one of the most important mass organizations of the Polisario Front, alongside the unions of women, youth, and students, all of which work to mobilize, guide, and ensure broad participation in the processes of liberation and nation-building.
