Soulac-sur-Mer (France), April 12, 2025 (SPS) – The international Freedom March campaign, demanding the release of Sahrawi political prisoners held in Moroccan jails, arrived this morning in the city of Soulac-sur-Mer, located 525 km southwest of the French capital, Paris.
Upon arrival, the campaign was welcomed by representatives from the French Railway Workers' Union (a group affiliated with France's railway company and in solidarity with the Sahrawi people), members of the French Communist Party, labor unions, a large Sahrawi community delegation, as well as human rights organizations and civil society groups.
Following the official reception, a working session was held to outline the campaign’s objectives, strategies for achieving them, and ways to support the Sahrawi people’s just struggle for decolonization - the last remaining colony in Africa.
Today’s events included:
A photo exhibition showcasing Sahrawi political prisoners and the different stages of the Sahrawi people’s struggle.
A lecture by Sidi Mohamed, the Sahrawi community representative in France, detailing the Sahrawi resistance, their ongoing struggle, and the human rights situation in the occupied territories.
A screening of a documentary on Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails, exposing the Moroccan occupation’s repressive policies against Sahrawis in the occupied territories, southern Moroccan cities, and university campuses.
In the evening, participants attended a cultural gathering inside a traditional Sahrawi tent set up in a large hall decorated with Sahrawi national flags and images of political prisoners. The event featured Sahrawi poetry, artistic performances, and solidarity speeches.
The march continues to mobilize international support for the immediate release of Sahrawi prisoners and the end of Morocco’s illegal occupation of Western Sahara.
