Montevideo (Uruguay), March 1, 2025 (SPS) - Mr. Brahim Ghali, President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, participated on Saturday in the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Mr. Yamandú Orsi.
In his inaugural speech, Mr. Orsi pledged to work towards promoting equality and development for all Uruguayan citizens, calling for a world based on freedom, free from the imposition of external policies and agendas, and grounded in respect, cooperation, and understanding among nations, as well as integration for a better world.
At the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony, and in line with his counterparts from other states, governments, and delegations, the Sahrawi President received a special reception from the newly elected President and his Vice President. On behalf of the government and people of the Sahrawi Republic, President Ghali renewed his congratulations to the President and the people of Uruguay on his electoral victory, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the consolidation of democracy in the country.
The President of the Republic attended this significant event in Uruguay following an official invitation from his outgoing counterpart, Mr. Luis Lacalle Pou. The ceremony witnessed the largest number of foreign guests in the country's history. Official sources reported that this participation included 185 foreign delegations from over 65 countries and 21 international organizations.
