Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), February 15, 2025 (SPS) - At the Conference Palace in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, the 38th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union commenced today, Saturday, with the presence of the President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali.
The summit is addressing a number of pressing issues facing the continent, foremost among them peace and security, institutional reforms, and economic integration, in addition to the theme of the year 2025, which is "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations."
The session opened with a public meeting that included official ceremonies and speeches by leaders of the member states, followed by the announcement of the African Union Commission Bureau for 2025 and the launch of the Union's annual theme.
The summit is expected to conclude with the announcement of decisions and recommendations that enhance cooperation and solidarity among member states, and outline the priorities for joint action in the coming year, as part of efforts to achieve stability and sustainable development across the African continent.
